Ultrasound tank testing, as part of our services, uses the principle of sound to provide the most reliable, cost-effective, rapid, simple, comprehensive, and accurate way to determine whether an underground tank is leaking or not.
Our company uses a non-volumetric testing system that works by introducing a vacuum that generates ultrasound signals. This technique is called acoustic because the principle is to detect and measure the sound waves produced by a leak using ultrasonic probes and detectors. The SDT tank test system has been independently recognized worldwide by most laboratories and is routinely used in many countries like Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Denmark, and Morocco.
The detection principle is basically when there is probably perforation in the wall of a tank, ingress of air, water or product produces ultrasonic signals. These signals are then picked up by sensitive ultrasonic sensors. The detector receives these signals and then amplifies, measures, and converts the signals to audible sounds. Diagnosis is then established using the measurement values and the sound heard through the earphones.
Ecological: In the event of a leak in the tank, no fuel is spilled in the ground during the test and no use of water has to be cleaned after the test.
Fast: The ultrasound technique does not require draining or filling of the tank, hence downtime is minimal. It enables the checking of the tank and piping accessories in a single operation without dismantling the panel of the manhole.
Precise: This technique detects even the smallest of perforations or mini faults not yet causing a leak. It allows you to locate the tightness problem either on the tank itself or around the manhole cover or on the pipes and their connections
Reliable: The test can be carried out at whatever height of the liquid (max 2 meters) except the tank is 100% full. The test is not influenced by temperature, humidity, or the angle of the tank. It is just as effective in dry environments as in wet.
Economical: In addition to the time gains linked to the set-up, the system offers the benefits of robust equipment for work in the field and can perform several checks.
Safety: only a minimal amount of pressure is imposed on the tank (max of about 250mb) using the ultrasound system. Other systems can impose over 3 bars which can potentially disable the mechanical strength of the tank.
